Latest Automotive Statistics For 2022: What Is The State Of The Automotive Industry?

June 21st, 2022 by

The automotive industry is constantly evolving. Every year, new technologies and trends emerge that have the potential to change the way we drive and interact with our vehicles. To stay ahead of the curve, it’s important to stay up-to-date on the latest statistics and forecasts for the automotive industry. Here are some of the most noteworthy numbers for 2022 according to the team at Findlay VW Henderson.

EV Sales are increasing rapidly. By 2022, the global electric vehicle market is expected to be worth $2 trillion

This is a huge jump from the $30 billion it was worth in 2016, and it’s due largely to the increasing number of countries investing in EV infrastructures and subsidies for buyers.

Year over year automotive sales are down by 29.9% in 2022

This is mostly due to production disruptions. This has made it a sellers market, and many companies have raised prices, often well over MSRP, and have taken away the usual incentives and discounts found in the industry. (Good news! Findlay Volkswagen does not charge over MSRP on vehicles *other than VW Golf R and in the month of June Findlay VW is paying registration fees on new VW Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport – see dealer for details).

The three top segment for sales halfway through 2022 in the US are Compact SUV, Full-Sized Pickups and Midsized SUVs

These three categories make up 49% of automotive sales in the United States.

The number of electric vehicles on the road in the US is expected to reach 22 million by 2030

While this estimate varies depending on the source, automotive brands predict that about 52% of new vehicles sold in 2030 will be all-electric.

Valued at $76.12 billion in 2020, the global market for autonomous vehicles is expected to be worth $87 billion by 2030

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the automotive industry, with global sales falling by 13% in just 2020

The Volkswagen America Chattanooga plant, which employs approximately 3,800 people, currently produces the Volkswagen Atlas (the recently retired Passat), and plans to add additional models in the next few years. This will help with production and hopefully bring more options to drivers in the United States.

Volkswagen is the 2nd largest car company in the world

Volkswagen held the lead for many years, but was recently surpassed by Toyota in production. Volkswagen owns multiple brands, including: Volkswagen, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, ŠKODA, SEAT, CUPRA, Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley, Porsche and Ducati.

Volkswagen is producing fewer cars in 2022

In 2021, Volkswagen produced 8.3 million vehicles, down from 9.3 the previous year. The brand had a goal of 700,000 in EV sales alone for the year, however production has faced difficulties due to pandemic lockdowns.

Volkswagen has 2 of the top 4 most popular vehicles ever

These are the Volkswagen Beetle and the Volkswagen Golf. What makes Volkswagen so popular? Some of the most often cited include its affordability, German engineering and build quality, and wide range of models.
