There are many important aspects of car maintenance. While it’s hard to claim that one is more important than another, we can definitively say that your tires are up there as some of the most important things to be keeping an eye on. You never want to be replacing tires sooner than you need to be, and you don’t want any blowouts or skidding when you’re traveling somewhere. That’s why, here at Findlay VW, we are going to be giving you some helpful tire maintenance tips that we offer at our service center. We want our customers to be informed, engaged, and aware of all of the aspects of car ownership that they might otherwise overlook. Keep reading down below to learn more!

Check tire pressure

The first thing we are discussing today is your tire pressure. This is a key feature of your tires that you need to be well aware of. While we know that many modern vehicles can monitor your tire pressure for you, it’s still important to know the basics of tire pressure and why this is so important for you. Underinflated tires can lead to a complete tire failure, while overinflated tires can lead to strange wearing, and other problems. You’ll be able to find the right PSI on the door edge, doorpost, fuel door, or glove box door. You can add more air to your tire by simply removing the valve and pressing onto the tire gauge. You never want to check tire pressure if the tires are hot.

Tire alignment

Have you hit a curb or a major pothole? This can throw the entire front end of your vehicle out of alignment, and could potentially damage your tires. When your wheels are misaligned, you will often find uneven and rapid tread wear, which could be easily corrected if brought into a service center like yours. You should be getting your tires aligned consistently, whether or not you have hit a pothole recently or not. This should go hand-in-hand with your tires being balanced.

Tire rotation

Another major tire service that you should always utilize is a tire rotation. The whole point of rotating your tires is to avoid uneven tread wear, which could end up resulting in you replacing your tires sooner than you might have otherwise. This is because each of your tires carries a different amount of weight, and your front tires in general are also in charge of turning, which will have them wear differently than rear tires (for front-wheel-drive vehicles). When you get the rest of your regular maintenance, make sure a tire rotation is included.
