Volkswagen I.D. Concept Range and Release Date

Volkswagen is looking toward the future of automotive by refocusing its efforts on electric vehicles. Now, we’re seeing one of the first efforts in this new era of Volkswagen electric mobility through the I.D. concept car unveiled at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. We have all the information you’ll want to know about the Volkswagen I.D. concept range and release date.

Although Volkswagen’s current electric model, the e-Golf, has not been made available here in Nevada, we realize it’s only a matter of time before the popularity of electric cars takes off and we see them become more widely available across the county and around the world. That’s our expectation for vehicles like the I.D.

I.D. Concept Car Electric Range

When people think about electric cars, they often think about the electric car stereotype of poor driving range. That may have been the case with the very first electric vehicles, but it isn’t the case today, even with a model like the e-Golf.

The I.D. is proof of this, as it has an electric range of 400 – 600 kilometers. Don’t worry, we’ll help with the conversion… that comes out to about 249 – 373 miles of travel on one charge. That’s certainly more than enough to cover your daily commute and evening errands for days on end, or perhaps even weeks.

The model comes equipped with an electric motor that has an output of 125 kW. And as impressive as the electric motor and driving range might be, even more impressive is that the I.D. is capable of fully autonomous driving through a system called I.D. Pilot.

Will Volkswagen Release the I.D. Concept as a Production Model?

So, when might we be able to get behind the wheel. Well, the good news is that Volkswagen has set a goal to sell 1 million electric cars by 2025, so they will definitely want to get cracking.

The other goods news is that Volkswagen has confirmed that the I.D. will be launched in some form as a compact electric in 2020, alongside the popular Gold model. Now, as exciting as that might sound, we’re still keeping our expectations in check, as there is always the possibility it will be released only overseas rather than here in the United States.
