Is Volkswagen Building a New Small Crossover SUV?
Recently, we shared with you what you can expect from Volkswagen’s 2017 Tiguan model. The changes are exciting, but now we turn our attention toward a new SUV concept model being revealed at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. So, does this mean Volkswagen is building a new small crossover SUV?
Volkswagen T-Cross Concept Details and Specs
Though Volkswagen has yet to reveal the name of this small SUV concept, rumors suggest it will be called the T-Cross. The expectation is that it will be similar in some ways to the T-Roc model we saw back in 2014.
The belief is that this crossover concept would fit into the same segment as models like the Nissan Juke or Mazda CX-3. Therefore, it should be a crossover smaller than the Tiguan.
What we do officially know from Volkswagen, is the this concept will carry forward some of the technology features of the BUDD-e microbus concept seen at CES 2016 in Las Vegas, in that it will have nearly no switches. VW has also revealed a few teaser images for us to enjoy.
So will there be a production release date for this so-called T-Cross model? There just might be.
According to Volkswagen, this new SUV concept is the “beginning of a broad SUV offensive” while offering a “realistic perspective on a completely new model series and at the same time on the future production model.” In addition, it is thought a production version may arrive either in 2017 or 2018, though these details have yet to be confirmed.
So, there you have it. It sounds like Volkswagen is planning on building a new small crossover SUV. What it will be called or how closely it will be to this concept model is not yet known, but as soon as more information is available, you’ll be able to find it on the Findlay Volkswagen blog.
