Differences Between 2016 Volkswagen Jetta GLI vs 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI
Recently, news was released announcing the 2016 model of the Jetta GLI, featuring a sporty new design. The model is considered to be the sedan version of the Golf GTI, so why not compare the two? Here we look at the differences between the 2016 Volkswagen Jetta GLI vs 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI.
2016 Volkswagen Jetta GLI vs 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI Engine Specs and Performance
You really can’t go wrong with either of these models. With the 2016 GLI’s new front fascia design incorporating a honeycomb grille and foglights, it much more closely resembles the sporty look of the Golf GTI. It makes sense too, seeing as how both models are outfitted with the same engine: a 2.0-liter TSI turbocharged engine delivering up to 210 horsepower. The GTI does, however, have the option of a Performance Package that can boost horsepower to 220. It’s no wonder why the Jetta GLI is considered the sedan equivalent of the Golf GTI.
Cargo Space in the 2016 Volkswagen Jetta GLI vs 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI
Of course, being a sedan is one of the things that makes the GLI most different from the GTI. Both vehicle’s are spacious, but the Golf GTI’s hatchback makes it ideal for those who are often loading and unloading their belongings for road trips or other purposes. With the rear seats down, it has a maximum cargo capacity of 47.2 cu. ft.
As a sedan, the Jetta is particularly great for transporting passengers and simply for those who prefer a sedan over a hatchback. You still have plenty of room, and though the dimensions for the 2016 Jetta GLI have yet to confirmed, the 2015 Jetta has trunk space of up to 15.5 cu. ft.
2016 Volkswagen Jetta GLI vs 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI Features and Trim Levels
The 2016 GLI will come with two trim levels: SE and SEL. The GTI, available as either a two-door or four-door model, has the S and SE, in addition to the Autobahn trim for four-door models. Features will depend on the trim level, though on both models you may be able to find push-button start, dual-zone climate control, a sunroof, a rearview camera, rain-sensing wipers and heated seats.
The 2016 GLI SEL trim will also feature navigation, an Adaptive Front-Lighting System and Homelink. Brand new on the GLI, however, is the Automatic Post-Collision Braking system. The 2016 GLI will feature this technology which has the ability to apply the brakes in the event of a collision, thereby helping to minimize the potential for any further damage.
