2017 Volkswagen Tiguan Redesign and Launch Date
Since first being produced in 2007, the VW Tiguan has been a top contender in the compact SUV segment, going up against models like the Mazda CX-5, Honda CR-V and Ford Escape. But changes are brewing for Volkswagen’s fun-to-drive SUV that are bound to make the Tiguan stand out more than ever. Indeed, a 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan redesign and launch date appear to be just over the horizon.

New VW Tiguan Expected to Be Available With Three Row Seating
To be clear, however, Volkswagen has been pretty quiet about details regarding a new Tiguan bound for US shores. We do expect the new Tiguan to be offered with an optional third row of seats, but the only official images we have yet to see for the 2017 model are for the European-spec Tiguan. Other than perhaps being longer, we would expect the US-spec model to look similar. You can use the photos below to compare the design for the European-spec 2017 Tiguan with the image of the 2016 Tiguan model currently offered in the US on the right (above on mobile).

What’s new for the 2017 VW Tiguan?
So other than the exterior design, what changes can we expect for the 2017 Tiguan? Like we said, since VW has been quiet on the model’s details for the US, we don’t have much to go by. Thankfully, however, a report from Autoblog is helping to shed some light on the matter.
It is reported that the new Tiguan coming to the US will be equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, which doesn’t sound like new equipment, but it will actually differ from the engine currently found in VW’s compact SUV. This one is expected to produce up to 184 horsepower while being paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. If we’re lucky, we may even see the new 4MOTION Active Control system found in the European-spec model that allows you to switch driving modes to better suit road conditions.
The European model will also be receiving a digital instrument cluster and a head-up display. We can only hope to see those things once the US-spec model arrives.
2017 or 2018 VW Tiguan Dealership Arrival Date
As you can likely tell, there are many unanswered questions and many things left up in the air, so pinpointing an exact time we’ll see the new Tiguan here in the States is difficult at this point. Our expectation right now is sometime in the summer of 2017, which could mean the model ends up getting sold as a 2018 model year vehicle instead.
For consistency, however, we’ll keep calling it the 2017 Tiguan until we hear otherwise. So, for the latest information on the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan redesign and launch date, stay tuned right here to the Findlay Volkswagen blog.
