Long-time Findlay employee Krumme named general manager of Findlay Volkswagen
Jim Krumme has certainly climbed the ladder as a 28-year employee of Findlay Automotive Group. For a man who started with the company as an 18-year-old lot porter at Findlay Oldsmobile on Boulder Highway in 1980, the recently-named general manager of Findlay Volkswagen in the Valley Automall has definitely risen through the ranks.
In fact, if there’s an example that dedication pays off in a world littered with heavy turnover and employee dissatisfaction, the graduate of Clark High School would undoubtedly fit the bill. Since breaking into the car business working for the late Pete Findlay, the personable Krumme has also done everything from work as a mechanic to serve as service manager to now working as the No. 1 man of Findlay Volkswagen.
Most recently, Krumme was service director of Findlay Volkswagen before serving in the same title with Findlay Chevrolet for the past year. The latest move creates the biggest challenge of his career, but the 46-year-old Krumme is excited about the move and members of his staff are glad he’s back with Findlay Volkswagen. “This is a great position and a great store,” said Krumme from his office. “Findlay Volkswagen is a profitable store and one with a big following. It’s wonderful to be back, especially with the new product lines that Volkswagen has coming out in the future. I feel privileged to work with some of the best managers in the business.”
Volkswagen’s product lines and long history is among the many reasons that Krumme enjoys being back with Findlay Volkswagen. “Volkswagen has great styling, and is in a class of its own in design and safety,” said Krumme, a native Las Vegan. “It is one of the largest automobile manufacturers in the world and people appreciate the German engineering.”
Among the top-selling Volkswagen models at Findlay Volkswagen are the Jetta and the GTI, both excellent vehicles for fuel mileage ratings. “We’re looking forward to the new Jetta diesel which will be out in the latter part of ’08,” said Krumme. “They will get almost 50 miles to the gallon on the highway and we can’t wait to get our hands on them.”
In nearly three decades of working for Findlay Automotive Group, Krumme has never considered the possibility of leaving. “The Findlays are a great family and I simply can’t see myself working for anyone else,” summarized Krumme. “This is home to me.”
Findlay Volkswagen business manager Helen Hurst said Krumme is the ideal candidate for the general manager position. “He knows the product, he knows all of the people in key positions and has a great working relationship with all of the key personnel,” said Hurst, who has been with Findlay Automotive Group for 10 years. “Not just anyone can be a general manager, but Jim is very cool under pressure and has a great relationship with customers. He is able to handle every situation very well and truly believes in customer service. He’s just a very nice guy. I like being here because it’s a family-owned business with great people and they treat me like I’m one of the family.”
Findlay Volkswagen is part of the Findlay Automotive Group chain of dealerships. The umbrella was formed more than 46 years ago by Pete Findlay who opened Findlay Oldsmobile in 1961.
Findlay Volkswagen is a Las Vegas, Nevada VW dealer in Henderson.
